This drug is primarily used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It particularly reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular intervention, and hospitalization due to angina and congestive heart failure in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia, while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels, serving as an adjunct to dietary therapy. It is also effective in controlling cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this drug is used to promote cardiovascular health and improve hyperlipidemia.
