Treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers and gastritis (gastrointestinal diseases)
This medication is used for gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before anesthesia and is effective for treating postoperative ulcers. It is used for the treatment of gastric or duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication helps improve symptoms and supports the healing of ulcers by inhibiting gastric acid secretion.
Administer 1 tablet orally twice daily, usually regardless of meal timing, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Stomach and duodenal ulcers: Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. For duodenal ulcer patients, administering 2 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime may achieve a higher treatment rate. For ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration or long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to prevent the occurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcers, the dosage is the same. Usually, conditions caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration heal within 8 weeks; however, healing periods may be prolonged depending on the patient. For recurrent ulcer patients who showed excellent results with short-term therapy of this medication, maintain therapy with 1 tablet once nightly before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime for 8 weeks. However, for severe gastroesophageal reflux disease patients, the dose may be increased to 2 tablets 4 times daily. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Start treatment with an initial dose of 1 tablet three times daily and may increase as necessary. In severe cases, a physician may prescribe up to 6 g of ranitidine daily. 4) Peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions: Once oral administration is possible, switch from injection to oral administration, dosing 1 tablet twice daily. 5) Preoperative medication (to prevent Mendelson's syndrome): Administer 1 tablet 2 hours prior to anesthesia induction. Additionally, administering 1 tablet on the night before surgery is also beneficial.
