This medication is used to treat hypertension and helps prevent the progression of kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly those with hypertension. Therefore, it is used to reduce complications associated with hypertension and to protect kidney function, thereby improving the patient's health.

How to take

Adult dose

For hypertension treatment, losartan potassium is administered orally once daily at 50 mg. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dosage may be divided into twice daily or increased up to 100 mg once daily. For kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, typically administer 50 mg once daily, and may be increased to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients who are allergic to this drug, pregnant women, those with severe liver dysfunction, and patients with certain genetic disorders should not take this medication. Elderly patients, patients with high serum potassium levels, patients with impaired liver or kidney function, and those with cardiovascular diseases should use this medication with caution. This drug is generally considered safe; however, side effects such as dizziness, muscle spasms, cough, and dyspepsia may occur. Consult a doctor if any unusual symptoms appear. This medication may increase potassium levels, so it is advisable not to take it with potassium supplements or medications containing potassium, and grapefruit juice should also be avoided. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to take this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued during its use. This medication is not to be used in children under 6 years of age or in children with severely impaired kidney function. Overdosing may lead to hypotension and arrhythmias, so it is essential to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage. If an overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately. During treatment, regular checks of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels are required, and caution is advised when driving or operating hazardous machinery due to the risk of dizziness.
