Reduction of cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia, and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk through HDL increase.
This medication helps lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia and increases good cholesterol. It can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to other treatment methods, especially in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is recommended to be used alongside dietary modifications, serving as an adjunctive treatment when sufficient effects cannot be achieved through dietary control alone. It is also important for patients with dyslipidemia to identify and treat any secondary causes due to other diseases or medications. This medication is used to appropriately manage lipid levels and improve health in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is effectively utilized to improve abnormal blood lipids.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, it is administered within the range of 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day, with a recommended initial dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol, an initial dose of 10/40mg daily is recommended. After administration, lipid levels should be checked after an interval of at least 2 weeks.
This medication may cause rare side effects that can affect muscles, such as myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. If you experience severe muscle pain or muscle weakness, you should immediately inform your doctor and discontinue use if necessary. Additionally, patients with weakened kidney function or risk factors such as severe infections, trauma, or post-operative states may need to temporarily discontinue the use of this medication. This medication can affect liver function, so liver function tests should be conducted before treatment and regularly monitored during treatment. If symptoms of liver dysfunction (e.g., nausea, vomiting, fatigue) arise, consult a physician. This medication is not to be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant or who are breastfeeding. Appropriate contraceptive measures should be utilized, and if pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be immediately discontinued. Furthermore, this medication may increase the risk of side effects when taken with certain drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. Dizziness or muscle pain may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Elderly patients, patients with liver diseases, or those with a history of alcohol addiction should use this medication with increased caution and undergo regular tests. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment and supportive therapy symptomatic to the situation are needed, along with careful monitoring of liver function and muscle condition. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, therefore it is not recommended.
