This medication helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol while simultaneously increasing HDL-cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It may also be used as an adjunct or alternative treatment in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is effective in the treatment of dyslipidemia when used alongside appropriate dietary therapy. It is important to check for other causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism before treatment and to treat them if necessary. During medication therapy, cholesterol and triglyceride levels should be monitored regularly, and more careful management is needed for high-risk patients. This medication is used to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia.

Precautions

This medication may rarely cause a serious side effect called rhabdomyolysis, where muscle tissue breaks down, possibly leading to kidney issues. Therefore, patients experiencing severe muscle pain or weakness, or those with compromised kidney function due to severe infection, surgery, trauma, electrolyte imbalance, etc., should temporarily stop or discontinue this medication. This medication is not to be used by those who are allergic to the active ingredients or components, have liver function problems or liver disease, have muscle disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are taking specific antiviral medications, or have inherited issues like lactose intolerance. Caution is advised in patients with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease, those with impaired kidney function, hypothyroidism, a family history of muscle disorders or previous muscle toxicity from similar medications, seniors over 70 years old, or those combining this medication with specific other medications. Adverse effects during the use of this medication may include muscle pain, abdominal pain, liver enzyme elevation, and in rare cases, serious myopathy, liver damage, skin rashes, allergic reactions, etc. If such symptoms occur, consultation with a physician should be sought immediately. Prior to and during treatment, liver function tests are required, and if liver enzyme levels significantly increase, discontinuation of the medication is necessary. Moreover, if muscle-related symptoms are present, muscle enzyme (CPK) tests should be conducted to assess the condition, and if serious, the medication should be discontinued. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so patients with poor liver function may need dosage adjustments. Additionally, as there are many potential drug interactions, patients taking other medications must inform their doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not take this medication and should use appropriate contraceptive methods during treatment. Women who are breastfeeding should also avoid this medication. It is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established. Caution is required for the elderly due to a higher risk of myopathy, but specific dose adjustments are generally not needed. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. Dizziness may occur during use, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery.
