Improvement of lipid profiles by reducing cholesterol and LDL in primary hypercholesterolemia (homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia, and increasing HDL.
This medication is used to reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to increase levels of HDL cholesterol, known as good cholesterol. It is also administered as an adjunctive therapy when other lipid-lowering treatments are ineffective in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and a process to identify other causes of dyslipidemia is necessary. Special attention should be paid to patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. Blood lipid levels should be monitored regularly during treatment to assess therapeutic effectiveness. Thus, this medication helps improve blood lipid abnormalities and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia: 10/10mg to 10/80mg daily dose range, with an initial recommended dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg. If a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol (more than 55%) is needed, an initial dose of 10/40mg is recommended. After initiation or adjustment of the dose, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This medication carries a risk of muscle abnormalities; therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, it is essential to inform a doctor immediately. In cases of severe infection, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or conditions affecting kidney function, the use of this medication should be temporarily paused. Patients with allergies to the ingredients in this medication, active liver disease, or persistent unexplained elevations in liver enzyme levels should not take this medication. This medication should also not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, individuals with muscle diseases, or those taking certain antiviral drugs. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance should not use it. Caution is warranted for patients with impaired liver or kidney function, those with a history of muscle-related side effects from medications, and alcohol abusers. Regular monitoring of liver function and muscle condition is required during the use of this medication, and it may be discontinued if liver function abnormalities or severe muscle pain occur. Interactions may occur when taken with other medications, particularly with certain antibiotics, antivirals, immunosuppressants, and fibrates. Women of childbearing age should employ adequate contraception to avoid pregnancy while taking this medication and should avoid it during pregnancy or lactation. Dizziness may occur; hence, caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Special care is needed when administering this medication to children or the elderly, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, immediate medical treatment should be sought. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
