This medication is used for gastrointestinal diseases such as stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome prior to anesthesia, and is effective in treating ulcers after surgery as well as stomach and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion to alleviate symptoms and protect the mucosa. Therefore, it helps in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically, without regard to meals, 2 tablets are taken orally twice a day before breakfast and bedtime. 1) Stomach and duodenal ulcers: Take 2 tablets twice a day or take 4 tablets once at bedtime. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with severely impaired renal function or those undergoing dialysis. It should also not be administered to patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or its components, or to those with a history of acute porphyria. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, newborns, and patients who need to restrict potassium intake should not use this medication. Patients with decreased liver function, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and patients with renal function issues should use this drug cautiously. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be monitored regularly during the use of this medication, especially the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers. This drug may mask the symptoms of stomach cancer; therefore, patients with stomach ulcers or those over middle age who have newly developed or changed dyspepsia symptoms should be evaluated for malignancy prior to treatment. Patients with Helicobacter pylori-related stomach and duodenal ulcers require further therapy for eradication. Care should be taken when administering this drug to severely ill patients, those with hypophosphatemia, and patients with swallowing difficulties. During the use of this drug, allergy reactions such as anaphylactic shock, skin rashes, urticaria, angioedema, fever, and bronchospasm may occur rarely; if symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. Laboratory tests may show decreases in white blood cells or platelets, liver function abnormalities, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea), and neurological symptoms (dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures), so report any abnormal symptoms immediately. Long-term use is not recommended, and if there is no therapeutic effect, it is advisable to switch to another medication. The elderly, those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, and immunocompromised patients may have an increased risk of developing pneumonia while taking this medication, so caution is indicated. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This drug may interact with other medications, so consult your doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking anticoagulants or certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants. It is safer not to use this medication in women who are pregnant or nursing. Safety for children has not been established; therefore, use is not recommended. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be needed, and blood dialysis can be performed if necessary. This medication decreases gastric acid secretion, potentially promoting bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, so ocular examination may be necessary for long-term use.
