Relief of joint disorders (e.g., osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), acute pain, and primary dysmenorrhea
This medication is used to relieve the symptoms and signs of arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It also rapidly alleviates acute pain following surgery or tooth extraction and helps relieve pain caused by primary dysmenorrhea. Overall, it is effective for managing various types of inflammation and pain, reducing discomfort for patients and improving their quality of daily life.
The minimum recommended dose of this medicine should be adjusted according to the patient and may be administered with or without food. Osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis): Take celecoxib 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. Rheumatoid arthritis: Take celecoxib 100 mg or 200 mg twice daily. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS): Administer celecoxib 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. If no effect is observed after 6 weeks, a dose of up to 400 mg daily may be administered. If no effect is observed after 6 weeks on 400 mg daily, other treatment options should be considered. Acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea: The recommended initial dose is celecoxib 400 mg, with an additional 200 mg on the first day of treatment if needed. From the second day of treatment, the recommended dose, if needed, is 200 mg twice daily. Patients with hepatic impairment: In patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class II), the dose should be reduced to approximately 50% of the recommended daily dose.
This medication should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist before use by individuals who consume alcohol daily. Excessive alcohol consumption may cause gastrointestinal bleeding when taking this medication. It may increase the risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke. This risk may increase with higher doses and longer durations of therapy, so it should be used at the minimum effective dose and for the shortest duration necessary. Even in patients without a history of cardiovascular disease, symptoms should be closely monitored, and immediate action should be taken if chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, or speech difficulties occur. This medication may cause serious adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal perforation, ulcers, or bleeding. Older patients or those with a history of gastrointestinal disorders are at greater risk and should be monitored closely. If symptoms like epigastric pain, dyspepsia, black stools, or hematemesis occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. It should not be administered to patients with a history of specific allergies, severe liver or kidney impairment, active peptic ulcers, heart failure, or to pregnant or nursing women. Patients with compromised liver or kidney function, asthma, hypertension, edema, or the elderly should be observed more closely when using this medication. While taking this medication, adverse effects such as insomnia, dizziness, dyspepsia, headaches, rashes, edema, hypertension, cough, or vomiting may occur. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult a physician. As this medication is metabolized by the liver, it may alter blood levels when taken with other medications that affect liver function, necessitating dosage adjustments. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, as it can harm the fetus during pregnancy, and should stop immediately if they become pregnant while on it. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney and heart function and should be monitored more closely while taking this medication. Patients on prolonged therapy should receive regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests, and discontinuation should occur if any abnormal findings arise. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. This medication does not inhibit platelet aggregation and cannot substitute for aspirin for thromboprophylaxis, and concomitant use with aspirin may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. While this medication is effective as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, it does not treat the underlying cause, so it's essential to consult a physician regarding the treatment plan.
