Treatment of male pattern baldness
This medication is used to treat male pattern baldness, specifically androgenetic alopecia, in adult men. Male pattern baldness is characterized by gradual thinning and loss of hair due to hormonal changes. This medication helps slow the progression of hair loss and improves hair health, facilitating stronger hair growth. With consistent use, it is effective in alleviating hair loss symptoms and improving hair condition. Therefore, this medication is actively used for the treatment of male pattern baldness in adult men.
Generally, as finasteride, 1 mg is administered orally once a day, without regard to meals. Typically, at least 3 months of treatment is required to observe clinical effects, and continuous use is recommended to maintain treatment effectiveness. The treatment duration and efficacy should be evaluated continuously. Discontinuation of treatment will result in the loss of therapeutic effects within 12 months.
This medication should not be used by pediatric patients or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication. This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness and benign prostatic hyperplasia, and it inhibits the production of dihydrotestosterone, a type of male hormone. While taking this medication, symptoms of depression or mood changes may occur, so mental health status should be monitored carefully. If symptoms such as feelings of depression or thoughts of suicide arise, it is imperative to consult with a healthcare professional immediately. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take or handle this medication due to the risk of genital abnormalities in a male fetus. Those with allergies to this medication or lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or allergies to soybean oil, beans, or peanuts should not take it. Patients with liver function issues or metabolic disorders associated with fat, such as hyperlipidemia, diabetic dyslipidemia, or pancreatitis, should use this medication cautiously. This medication may cause side effects related to sexual function, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders; if these symptoms occur, consulting with medical personnel is advised. Fortunately, most of these side effects resolve after discontinuation of the medication. Long-term use of this medication has also reported breast tenderness or enlargement, testicular pain, and other side effects in some patients. This medication may slightly increase the risk of certain high-grade forms of prostate cancer, so regular check-ups and PSA level tests are recommended. During treatment, any changes in the breast, such as lumps, pain, or discharge, should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. No clinically significant interactions with other medications have been reported; however, if other medications are being taken, consulting a healthcare professional is advisable. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, nor should it be administered to pediatric patients. Special dosage adjustment is not necessary for elderly patients, but the effectiveness of this medication in elderly patients has not been established. While taking this medication, PSA levels may decrease on blood tests, so this should be taken into account when interpreting test results. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but serious adverse reactions have not been reported in cases of overdose. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it could negatively affect quality.
Hives, angioedema (including swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, and face)
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it is advisable to keep it in a cool place between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's effectiveness for a longer period.
