Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension in cases where blood pressure is not well controlled with monotherapy of either amlodipine or olmesartan medoxomil. It effectively manages high blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications and improving overall blood pressure control.
Take one tablet once daily with water, irrespective of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine 5 mg or olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg. - 10/20 mg: For patients with olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg monotherapy.
The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to any components of this medication, severely impaired liver or kidney function, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with specific heart diseases should not take this medication. When administering this medication to patients who are fluid or salt depleted, careful monitoring is needed, as blood pressure may drop too low, and appropriate measures should be taken if symptoms of hypotension occur. There is a rare possibility of sudden drops in blood pressure due to vascular dilation; hence, it should be used cautiously in patients with aortic stenosis. For patients with compromised cardiac function or renal impairment, regular monitoring is necessary as this medication may affect renal function. During treatment with this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, nausea, and edema may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Especially in elderly patients, who may have decreased body function, treatment should start with a lower dosage, and monitoring should be thorough. When taking this medication with other drugs, interactions may occur, so it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being used. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consider treatment with other medications that have been confirmed to be safe instead of this drug, and nursing mothers should discontinue either this medication or breastfeeding. Overdose may lead to severe hypotension and symptoms due to vascular dilation, so immediate medical attention is required for appropriate treatment. This medication is not recommended for children as the safety and effectiveness have not been established, and it should be stored out of reach of children, in a place avoiding moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
