This medication is used to treat various digestive system issues such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and reflux esophagitis. It also suppresses excessive gastric acid secretion caused by Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and helps prevent ulcers that may occur post-surgery. Administered before anesthesia, it prevents Mendelson's syndrome and is effective in treating gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to improve various gastrointestinal diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Usually administered as 2 tablets orally twice a day irrespective of meals, in the morning and at bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Take 2 tablets twice a day or 4 tablets once before bed. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients, patients with a history of acute porphyria, patients who have undergone gastric surgery, pregnant women or those who might become pregnant, premature infants and newborns, and patients on a dietary regimen that restricts potassium intake. Patients with liver dysfunction, a history of hypersensitivity reactions, the elderly, patients with a history of kidney diseases, and those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should exercise caution when administering this medication. Particularly, since it may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, patients with gastric ulcers and middle-aged or older patients who have newly developed or changed dyspeptic symptoms should be assessed for malignancy before use. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers who are infected with Helicobacter pylori should receive eradication therapy, and severely ill patients in intensive care or those with hypophosphatemia and patients who have difficulty swallowing should also be cautious when administering this medication. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or shock; therefore, if any abnormal symptoms appear during use, stop the medication immediately and seek appropriate treatment. Allergic symptoms such as skin rash, hives, angioedema, fever, bronchospasm, hypotension, chest pain, etc., may occur, so caution is advised. Regular blood tests are required as leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or liver function abnormalities may appear in blood tests. Various side effects have been reported, including cardiac irregularities, gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.), neurological symptoms (dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, etc.), muscle pain, skin rash, etc. If any abnormal symptoms occur, inform a healthcare provider immediately. If the medication does not provide an effect without long-term use, it is advisable to switch to another drug. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems may have an increased risk of pneumonia, requiring caution. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs while taking this medication, avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so particularly when taken alongside anticoagulants, frequent blood tests are necessary, and dosages should be spaced apart from certain antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antacids, etc. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from using this medication, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established, so it is advisable not to administer it in children. In the case of overdose, treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, it can be removed through blood dialysis. This medication decreases gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial proliferation in the stomach; therefore, regular screenings, including ocular examinations, are necessary during long-term use.
