This medicine is used for the treatment of hypertension. In particular, it is also helpful in preventing and treating nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is effective in improving both blood pressure control and kidney health.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults with hypertension: The initial and maintenance dose of losartan potassium is recommended to be 50 mg orally once a day. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the same dose can be divided into two doses daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. It should not be administered to patients with specific diseases, such as those with an allergy to this medication or with severely impaired liver function, or those with a history of angioedema. Caution must be exercised when administering this drug to elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function, and to patients with hyperkalemia, as care should be taken to avoid excessively low blood pressure. Dizziness or symptoms of hypotension may occur during treatment, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. During the course of treatment, blood pressure, kidney function, and serum potassium levels should be monitored regularly to ensure they are within normal limits. Interactions may occur when taken with other antihypertensives, potassium supplements, certain diuretics, etc., thus consultation with a physician or pharmacist is mandatory. Adverse reactions such as angioedema, liver dysfunction, muscle pain, skin rash, etc. may occur occasionally and if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and bradycardia may occur, and immediate emergency treatment is required. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so caution is necessary. This drug should not be given to children, especially those under 6 years of age, and it is advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid taking it.
