This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina characterized by vasospasm. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina and lowers the risk of coronary artery revascularization in patients confirmed to have coronary artery heart disease through angiography, provided they do not have heart failure or have an ejection fraction greater than 40%. It is utilized to effectively manage the symptoms and risks associated with cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, 5 mg of amlodipine is taken orally once daily, and the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or others in the same class, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, those with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in a state of shock should not be administered this medication. Moreover, it should be used cautiously in patients with severe hypotension, those receiving dialysis due to kidney failure, elderly individuals, and women who are pregnant or of childbearing potential. This drug lowers blood pressure and acts on the heart and blood vessels, and the most common side effects include facial flushing, fatigue, swelling of hands and feet, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, a variety of side effects such as hypotension, vasculitis, neurological symptoms, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, gastrointestinal issues, elevated blood sugar, myalgia, hair loss, skin rashes, etc. have been reported. Patients with heart failure or severely impaired liver function should be carefully monitored for the effects and side effects of this drug, and blood pressure may change gradually after discontinuation, so caution is advised when using other antihypertensives. This drug can interact with other medications, so it is important to be cautious when taken in combination with specific antibiotics, antihypertensives, hypoglycemic agents, grapefruit juice, etc. It is recommended to avoid grapefruit juice as it may potentiate the effect of the drug. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their doctor before using this drug, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication. For children, use is recommended only in those aged 6 years and older, as safety and effectiveness have not been established in children under 6 years.
