This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular interventions, congestive heart failure hospitalizations, and angina in patients who already have coronary heart disease. Furthermore, it is effective as an adjunct to diet in managing cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, and can also be used in patients with specific beta-lipoproteinemia or elevated triglycerides who do not respond adequately to diet. Therefore, this medication is used for the improvement and management of risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
