Improvement of hypoalbuminemia
In patients with non-cirrhotic liver disease, hypoalbuminemia may occur despite adequate food intake. This medication helps to improve such hypoalbuminemia and aids in normalizing blood albumin levels. As a result, the patient’s nutritional status may improve, and it may have a positive impact on overall liver function recovery. Improvement of hypoalbuminemia may also reduce the risk of complications such as edema or ascites. Therefore, this drug is effectively used for the treatment of hypoalbuminemia caused by non-cirrhotic liver disease.
Typically, for adults, 1 packet is taken orally after meals three times a day.
This drug should not be administered to patients with congenital maple syrup urine disease as they are at risk of developing serious symptoms such as seizures or respiratory distress. While using this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension or discomfort, and nausea may occasionally occur. If these symptoms arise, it is advisable to reduce the dosage or temporarily discontinue the medication. Additionally, it may affect kidney function, resulting in elevated BUN levels in blood tests. In such cases, dosage adjustment or discontinuation may be necessary. Metabolic disorders may cause an increase in blood ammonia levels, so if such symptoms appear, it is necessary to adjust the dosage of the medication. Side effects such as abnormal liver function, skin rashes or itching, fatigue, edema, and facial flushing have also been reported; therefore, consulting with healthcare professionals in case of unusual symptoms is recommended. This drug is used in patients with hypoalbuminemia who have sufficient food intake and also present with ascites or hepatic encephalopathy. In cases with diabetic or hepatic encephalopathy complications, dietary guidance should be provided, and if food intake is insufficient, appropriate nutritional support is necessary. This drug may not be effective in patients with very advanced cirrhosis, those with severe hepatic encephalopathy coma, patients with very high total bilirubin levels, or patients in whom protein synthesis is significantly impaired, and it should not be administered. This medication contains only branched-chain amino acids and does not provide all necessary amino acids. Therefore, it is crucial to consume sufficient protein and calories through diet, with particular caution advised for patients requiring protein restriction. Long-term excessive use may lead to elevated BUN and ammonia levels in the blood, so care should be taken, and if hypoalbuminemia does not improve after more than 2 months of treatment, alternative treatment methods should be considered. Elderly individuals are at increased risk of metabolic disorders due to declining bodily function, so it should be administered carefully. The safety of this drug has not been established for pregnant or breastfeeding women, so it should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in children has not been confirmed, so it is advisable not to use this medication in pediatric patients. Finally, this drug should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may lead to accidents or compromise the quality of the medicine, so caution is advised.
