Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
Amlodipine or Olmesartan Medoxomil are used in patients with essential hypertension when blood pressure is poorly controlled. They act by dilating blood vessels to lower blood pressure and help prevent cardiovascular complications. Often, this medication is used in combination when monotherapy is insufficient to enhance the therapeutic effect. It plays an important role in managing the patient's blood pressure steadily to maintain health. Thus, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
This medication is administered once daily with water, regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning) whenever possible. The recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of either amlodipine 5 mg or olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg. - 10/20 mg: For patients not adequately controlled with monotherapy of olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg.
The safety and efficacy of this drug in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established.
This drug can cause serious injury or death to the fetus and newborn, particularly during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Those allergic to this drug's active ingredients or similar components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver disease or certain heart conditions, patients on kidney dialysis, those in a state of shock, and specific diabetic patients should not take this drug. In patients with low blood pressure due to a lack of fluid or salt, symptoms of low blood pressure may occur, so it is essential to closely monitor the condition upon first administration, and proper treatment is needed if low blood pressure occurs. This drug has a vasodilatory effect, so caution is required when used in patients with aortic stenosis, severe obstructive coronary artery disease, or congestive heart failure. For patients with impaired kidney function, this drug may affect kidney function, so regular monitoring of kidney function is necessary. In patients with liver impairment, metabolism and excretion of this drug may be delayed, requiring careful administration. During treatment with this drug, adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, indigestion, skin rash, and others may occur, and if symptoms are severe or persistent, consultation with a physician is advised. This drug may interact with other medications, so if other medications are being taken, patients must inform their healthcare provider, and it is especially recommended to avoid taking it with grapefruit juice. It is safest not to take this drug during pregnancy, and for breastfeeding mothers, it is recommended to either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking the medication as it may be passed into breast milk. Children under 18 years of age should not use this drug as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In the elderly, dosages may need to be adjusted and closely monitored considering the potential for reduced kidney and liver function. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, vascular dilation, and tachycardia may occur, requiring immediate medical treatment and continuous monitoring of blood pressure and heart function. This drug should be stored in a closed container away from direct sunlight and moisture, and should not be transferred to another container.
