Improves myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and coronary artery disease (stable and variant angina) and reduces the risk of hospitalization for angina and risk of vascular revascularization.
This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and stable and variant angina. It also helps to reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina in patients with confirmed coronary artery disease through angiography, who have no heart failure or a cardiac output of more than 40%, and helps to reduce the risks associated with coronary artery revascularization. Therefore, it is used as an effective treatment for managing cardiovascular diseases and symptom improvement.
Adults: Administer 5 mg orally once daily, as amlodipine. The dose may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg once daily based on the patient's response. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or similar classes of medications, those who are breastfeeding, those with severe liver dysfunction, those with severe aortic stenosis, and those in states of shock should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication should be used cautiously in patients who require careful management. Patients with severe hypotension, those in need of dialysis for renal failure, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should strictly follow the doctor's instructions when taking this medication. While this medication effectively lowers blood pressure, side effects such as flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur during use. Rarely, it may lead to low blood pressure, skin rashes, allergic reactions, or cardiac issues, so any abnormal symptoms should be immediately discussed with healthcare professionals. Patients with heart failure or liver dysfunction may experience prolonged effects of this medication, so dosage adjustment and monitoring are necessary. Additionally, this medication has a slow onset of action and is not suitable for acute situations such as acute angina. It is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice during the use of this medication, as it can increase the serum concentration of this medication and raise the risk of side effects. When taking other medications concurrently, there is a potential for interactions, so particularly when used with certain antibiotics, immunosuppressants, or statins, it’s essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so it should only be taken under the judgment of a physician if necessary, and breastfeeding is recommended to be discontinued. In children, efficacy has been established for those aged 6 years and older, but safety and efficacy have not been determined for those below this age. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, rapid heartbeat, and shock may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment, and this medication cannot be removed through hemodialysis, thus requiring specialized medical attention. Driving or operating machinery is generally safe while taking this medication; however, caution is advised if dizziness or drowsiness occurs.
