Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases including gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis
This medication is used for various gastrointestinal diseases, including gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for the prevention of ulcers that may occur after surgery and for ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It helps prevent Mendelson's syndrome when administered before anesthesia. This medication plays an important role in alleviating symptoms and protecting the mucosa by regulating gastric acid secretion, and is widely used in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
Usually taken orally, 2 tablets twice a day in the morning and before sleep, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: 2 tablets twice a day or 4 tablets once a day before sleep. Particularly for duodenal ulcer patients, taking 4 tablets twice a day in the morning and before sleep yields higher treatment rates. The dosage remains the same for ulcers due to NSAID use or long-term use. Usually within 4 weeks.
This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those with poor kidney function. Additionally, it should not be administered to those with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or its components, patients with a history of acute porphyria, those who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, premature infants or neonates, and those on a potassium-restricted diet. Caution is required for patients with liver dysfunction, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those with a history of kidney impairment when using this medication. When taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs together, especially in the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers, regular check-ups are needed to monitor their condition. This medication can mask symptoms of stomach cancer, so patients over middle age with gastric ulcer or newly developed or changed dyspeptic symptoms should confirm the possibility of malignancy before use. Patients with positive Helicobacter pylori gastritis or duodenal ulcers should undergo treatment to eradicate the bacteria. Special caution is necessary when used in critically ill patients in intensive care or those with hypophosphatemia and swallowing difficulties. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock, so symptoms should be closely monitored during administration. If symptoms such as skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, fever, or bronchospasm appear, use should be discontinued immediately. Blood tests may show leukopenia or thrombocytopenia, so if symptoms like fatigue, bleeding, or fever occur, testing should be performed. Liver function test results may temporarily rise or show signs of hepatitis, and abnormal symptoms should lead to immediate discontinuation. Arrhythmias or vasculitis have been reported rarely, so caution is required for individuals with a history of heart disease. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and stool color may change, but most do not require treatment. Dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, insomnia, and headaches are rare neurological side effects, and use should be discontinued if abnormal symptoms appear. Muscle pain or joint pain has been reported rarely, and in severe cases, rhabdomyolysis can occur, necessitating immediate cessation upon symptom onset. Skin reactions such as rashes, alopecia, and itching can also occur rarely. This medication is best not used for extended periods, and if no therapeutic effect is observed, switching to another medication is recommended. The elderly or patients with chronic lung diseases, diabetes, or immunocompromised states may have an increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is needed. If dizziness or drowsiness occur, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication can interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform your healthcare provider about any concurrent medications, as some may require dosage adjustments. Particularly when used with anticoagulants, blood clotting status should be closely monitored. This medication is best not administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women. The safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so use should be avoided whenever possible. In case of overdose, treatment for vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and blood dialysis may be suitable if needed. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, promoting bacterial growth in the stomach, so ophthalmic examinations may be needed for long-term use.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest pain, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, blood abnormalities (granulocytopenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, acquired immune hemolytic anemia), jaundice, hepatitis, liver dysfunction, tachycardia, bradycardia, heart block, premature ventricular contractions, arrhythmia, vasculitis, neurological abnormalities (seizures, altered consciousness, myoclonic jerks), rhabdomyolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
