How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mydriasis, instill 1-2 drops once. Alternatively, instill 1 drop at intervals of 3-5 minutes for 2 administrations. For cycloplegia, instill 1 drop at intervals of 3-5 minutes for 2-3 administrations. Discard any remaining solution and container immediately after use.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with glaucoma or narrow anterior chamber angle, as it may cause an increase in intraocular pressure, leading to an acute angle-closure glaucoma attack. Caution should be exercised when administering to children, patients with hypertension, patients with arteriosclerosis, patients with heart disease, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism. Special attention is needed for children as systemic side effects can occur more easily. If any abnormal symptoms occur during administration, stop usage immediately and seek appropriate treatment, as shock reactions may develop. Furthermore, hypersensitivity symptoms such as eyelid redness, swelling, and itching may also occur, and administration should be discontinued if these symptoms arise. Eye-related side effects such as corneal epithelial defects or increased intraocular pressure may occur, so the eye condition should be carefully monitored. Additionally, systemic symptoms such as dry mouth, facial flushing, increased heart rate, and elevated blood pressure may appear, necessitating caution. When used in the ophthalmology field, caution should be taken as it could delay treatment or cause congestion and deposits in glaucoma. Avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery until recovery, as the medication can cause mydriasis or cycloplegia, and it is recommended to wear sunglasses to avoid direct exposure to strong light or sunlight. Patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants should be closely monitored as there is a risk of sudden blood pressure elevation. When administering to children, close observation is necessary due to the possibility of systemic side effects, and in cases of premature infants, bradycardia or apnea have been reported, so administration should be promptly stopped upon any abnormal signs and appropriate measures taken. Diluting the medication if necessary is advisable. Elderly individuals require special caution during administration due to decreased physiological function. When instilling drops, the patient should lie down and gently hold the eyelid open to place the medication in the conjunctival sac, keeping the eye closed for 1-5 minutes and applying pressure to the punctum to prevent the medication from flowing out. Do not use medication that has changed color or formed precipitates, and it should only be used for instillation. Be careful not to let the tip of the container come into direct contact with the eye, avoid sharing to prevent contamination, and use only once after opening, discarding any remaining medication and container immediately. Store the medication in a place out of reach of children, avoiding direct sunlight, and keep it in a cool, dry place. It is crucial not to transfer to another container to maintain quality.
