This medication is primarily used as a preparatory laxative to cleanse the bowel before colon X-ray examinations, colonoscopy, and surgery.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 packet of the prepared solution before 8 AM on the day before the examination. An additional packet of the prepared solution should be taken 6-8 hours later.

Child dose

Ages 1-2: Take 1/4 packet in the morning and 1/4 packet in the afternoon on the day before the examination. Ages 2-4: Take 1/2 packet in the morning and 1/2 packet in the afternoon on the day before the examination. Ages 4-9: Take 1 packet in the morning on the day before the examination.

Precautions

This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener that breaks down to phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, it should not be used by patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components, those with weak heart function, ulcers or inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, bowel obstruction, or dehydration should not take this medication. Patients who have recently undergone gastrointestinal surgeries, those with kidney or heart diseases, as well as children, the elderly, and frail individuals should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Special care should be taken if using medications that can impact fluid or electrolyte balance. While taking this medication, side effects such as headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin rashes may occur, and if any unusual symptoms arise, medical consultation should be sought immediately. This medication is recommended to be used before colon surgery only in specific instances, and if taken over a long duration, the dosage times should not exceed 24 hours to prevent fluid and electrolyte imbalance. This medication may affect the absorption of other oral medications, so it may be necessary to adjust the dosing schedule, especially if taking antiepileptics, contraceptives, diabetes medications, antibiotics, etc. It is advisable not to use this medication during pregnancy, and during breastfeeding, it is generally not absorbed, but consulting a healthcare professional before use is recommended.
