This medication can rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis can pose a life-threatening risk due to excessive accumulation of acidic substances in the blood, so special caution is required during treatment with this medication. Additionally, hypoglycemia may occur when used in conjunction with other diabetes medications, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, so blood sugar levels should be closely monitored. This medication should not be used in specific patients, such as those with moderate to severe renal impairment, patients with heart failure, those who have suffered an acute myocardial infarction, patients with severe liver dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Before undergoing tests that use radioiodine contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued at least 48 hours prior, and it should only be resumed after confirming that renal function is normal. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis, such as severe abdominal pain, occur during treatment with this medication, it should be stopped immediately and medical consultation is required. Since blood levels of vitamin B12 may decrease, regular blood tests and appropriate treatment, if necessary, should be performed. Skin reactions such as bullous pemphigoid or severe hypersensitivity may occur; if any skin abnormalities arise, you must inform your doctor immediately. When administering this medication to the elderly, caution must be exercised regarding potential renal impairment, and regular renal function tests should be conducted. In case of overdose, seek medical attention promptly for appropriate treatment, especially if symptoms of lactic acidosis are suspected. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform your healthcare provider about any additional medications being taken. Also, the tablet coating may be excreted in the stool, but this does not affect the medication's efficacy, so there's no need for concern. Generally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and special caution is needed, particularly in cases of liver or kidney disease. Before undergoing any surgery or procedure, consult with your healthcare provider to determine whether to discontinue this medication.
