Treatment of osteoarthritis
This medication is used for arthritis of the hip and knee, specifically osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease. It helps relieve pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and improves joint function.
Adults: Administer 50∼100mg of diacerein per day orally in 1∼2 divided doses after meals. Adjust the dose appropriately according to symptoms. For patients who have experienced loose stools or diarrhea, an initial dose of 50mg once daily for the first 2-4 weeks is recommended, followed by 50mg twice daily.
This medicine should not be used in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction syndrome, or unexplained abdominal pain. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medicine or its components, have liver disease or a history of liver disease, and children under 15 years old. Patients with a history of small intestine or colon disease, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and elderly patients over 65 years old should use this medication with caution, and dosage should be reduced for the elderly. This drug may affect the digestive system, causing diarrhea, loose stools, and abdominal pain. Long-term use could lead to serious issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, or perforation. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, so caution is necessary. Skin reactions may include itching, rash, and eczema, and liver function abnormalities may result in elevated liver enzyme levels. When using this medication long-term, it is essential to follow the doctor's instructions, and if diarrhea occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. Due to the risk of liver damage, alcohol consumption should be avoided, and if liver function abnormalities appear, use should be stopped. Antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum or taking it with salt may reduce the absorption of this drug, so it should be taken at least 2 hours apart. Caution is advised if taken with diuretics, as diuretic effects may be amplified, increasing the risk of dehydration or hypokalemia. When taken with cardiac glycosides, the risk of arrhythmias may increase, so consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid the use of this medication due to potential effects on the fetus or newborn.
