Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine or valsartan. In other words, it helps effectively control blood pressure in cases where it is difficult to manage blood pressure with monotherapy alone. This helps reduce the risk of complications due to hypertension and improves overall cardiovascular health.

This drug may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, therefore it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to the ingredients in this medication or similar drugs, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe kidney or liver diseases, or those with a history of certain heart conditions or angioedema should not take this drug. Patients with sodium or fluid depletion should correct their conditions before taking this drug, and if symptoms of hypotension occur, they should lie down immediately and receive intravenous fluid therapy if necessary. Patients with high serum potassium levels should be especially cautious when taking this drug along with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics, and they should frequently monitor their potassium levels. Patients with kidney issues or those who have received a kidney transplant, as well as those with a history of angioedema, should be cautious when taking this medication; if symptoms of angioedema occur, they should stop taking the medication immediately. Patients with heart failure or following a myocardial infarction should closely monitor kidney function and symptoms while on this medication, and patients with acute myocardial infarction should be careful as this medication may exacerbate angina or myocardial infarction symptoms. Like other vasodilators, this medication should be used with caution in patients with certain heart valve diseases. Taking this drug with other medications that have similar effects may increase the risk of hypotension, worsening kidney function, and hyperkalemia, so it is advised to avoid combination therapy or to frequently check blood pressure and kidney function under a doctor's guidance. Use caution when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or cardiac dysfunction may occur, and immediate medical assistance is required.
