Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by combining alogliptin and pioglitazone. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in patients, effectively improving blood sugar levels. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication should be taken once daily, regardless of meals. The tablets should not be divided. The recommended starting dose varies depending on previous diabetes medication experience and combination therapy; however, it is generally administered at 25 mg/15 mg. For monotherapy or combination therapy with pioglitazone, the doses of 25 mg/15 mg or 25 mg/30 mg can be administered. Depending on blood sugar control response, the maximum dose can be 25 mg/30 mg once daily.
This medication may put stress on the heart; therefore, it should not be used in patients with heart failure or symptoms of heart failure. While taking this medication, patients should be carefully monitored for sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or swelling in the legs, which are symptoms of heart failure. If these symptoms occur, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for appropriate treatment, and if necessary, discontinue or reduce the dose of this medication. This medication may cause fluid retention and worsen heart failure; therefore, patients with edema should be particularly cautious. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should not take this medication, and if hematuria or discomfort during urination occurs, they should inform their doctor immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and premenopausal women should take appropriate contraceptive measures while using this medication. Patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction should also avoid this medication, and those with moderate to severe renal impairment should use it with caution. This medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, caution is required when used in combination with hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas. If abnormalities in liver function, severe joint pain, skin rashes, or severe allergic reactions occur while taking this medication, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Elderly patients or those in poor nutritional status may be more sensitive to side effects; therefore, caution is needed. This medication may interact with other drugs; thus, if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform the healthcare professional. Children should not use this medication as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
