This medication is used to treat joint diseases such as knee osteoarthritis and periarthritis of the shoulder. It helps alleviate pain and restore function by improving degenerative changes in the knee joint and inflammation in the tissues around the shoulder.

How it is given

Adult administration

Usually 1 syringe is administered into the knee joint or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa, or biceps tendon sheath) once a week for 3 weeks for usual adults, but the frequency of administration should be adjusted according to symptoms. Since this medication is injected into the joint, strict aseptic technique should be followed.

Precautions

This medication contains sodium hyaluronate and is administered via direct injection into the joints. It should not be used in patients who have previously shown allergic reactions to this medication. Careful use is required in patients with allergies to other medications, those with liver function issues, or those with a history of liver disease. If there are skin conditions or infections at the injection site, the condition should be thoroughly evaluated before administration of this medication. Severe allergic reactions, such as shock, may occur during the use of this medication; therefore, the patient's condition should be closely monitored after administration. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as swelling around the face or eyes, rash, or itching occur, use should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Temporary pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or pressure sensation may occur at the injected joint; if these symptoms appear, consult with medical personnel. Systemic symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or fever may occasionally occur, so caution is advised. In cases of severe joint inflammation, it is safer to administer this medication after the inflammation has subsided. After injection, it is advisable to stabilize the injection site and avoid excessive movement. If the medication leaks out of the joint space, it can cause pain, so care must be taken to inject it accurately into the joint. Injections should be performed under sterile conditions, and if symptoms do not improve, it should be administered up to three times and then stopped. If there is fluid in the joint space, it is advisable to drain the fluid if necessary before administration. This medication is not suitable for intravenous injection or use in the eyes. It is recommended to use a needle of size 22-23 gauge for injection. Caution should be taken to avoid mixing with certain disinfectants, as this may cause precipitation of the drug. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication with caution and only if required, while it is recommended to avoid breastfeeding during administration. Safety has not been established in children, so it should be used with caution only when absolutely necessary. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions, thus special care should be taken during administration.
