Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used for the treatment of patients with essential hypertension for whom blood pressure control is difficult even with monotherapy using Isamlodipine or Olmesartan Medoxomil. This drug effectively lowers blood pressure, reducing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. By continuously managing blood pressure, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and myocardial infarction. Appropriate dosage and administration will be guided based on the patient's condition, and continuous use is important. For safe treatment, regular blood pressure checks are recommended, and patients should follow their doctor's instructions. This drug helps improve hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to any of the components or similar drugs, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe liver disease or certain heart conditions, and those undergoing renal dialysis. Patients with fluid or sodium depletion may experience excessively low blood pressure when starting this medication, so their condition should be monitored closely. If blood pressure drops too low, appropriate treatment may be necessary. This drug has a vasodilatory effect and can cause acute hypotension or cardiac issues; therefore, patients with severe heart disease should be particularly cautious. Patients with reduced kidney function may experience further deterioration in renal function while taking this medication, necessitating regular monitoring. Patients with poor liver function should also use caution when taking this drug, and dosage adjustments may be needed. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, dyspepsia, skin rash, and others may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be discussed with a physician. This drug can interact with other medications, particularly antihypertensives, diuretics, potassium supplements, certain antibiotics, and grapefruit juice, so caution is advised when taking them together. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consider alternative treatments with established safety rather than this medication. Nursing mothers should be aware that this medication can pass into breast milk and may affect the infant, so they should cease breastfeeding or consult a doctor during treatment. This drug is not recommended for children under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced liver, kidney, or heart function, so they should start at a lower dose and be monitored closely when taking this drug. Overdose of this medication can lead to severe hypotension and cardiac issues due to vascular dilation, so in case of overdose, immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heat, and it is important to keep it out of reach of children.
