Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Likewise, it is contraindicated in patients with bowel obstruction syndrome or unexplained abdominal pain. Additionally, individuals allergic to this medicine or any component included, especially Rhein derivatives, should not take it. Patients with liver disease or a history of liver problems are also advised against using this medication. It is not for use in children under 15 years of age. Since this product contains lactose monohydrate, it should not be taken by individuals with hereditary lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with a history of small intestine or colon disease should use this medication cautiously, as should women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Older adults aged 65 and above should use a reduced dosage. Patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to the color additive Yellow No. 5 (Sunset Yellow FCF) should also take caution. Digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loose stools may occur with this medication, and long-term use may lead to severe problems like gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations. Skin reactions, such as itching, rashes, and eczema, are common. Liver function abnormalities may arise, and caution is needed if liver enzyme levels increase. When taking this medication for a long period, always follow a doctor's advice, as severe diarrhea may lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, prompting discontinuation and physician consultation. It is advisable to avoid taking it with laxatives. Because of the risk of liver damage, if any symptoms of liver dysfunction arise, usage should be stopped immediately, and alcohol consumption should be limited. When taking this medication, antacids or salts containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum can interfere with drug absorption; thus, these substances should be taken at least 2 hours apart. Caution is also warranted when used concomitantly with diuretics due to the increased diuretic effect, which could lead to dehydration or hypokalemia. Furthermore, caution is indicated if taken with cardiotonics due to the increased risk of arrhythmias. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from using this medication as animal studies have indicated delayed bone formation in fetuses. The drug can be transmitted in small amounts through breast milk, so it is recommended to avoid use while breastfeeding.
