(Hypertension, Angina) Improvement of myocardial ischemia and reduction of (cardiovascular disease) risk
This medication is used for patients who need to take both amlodipine and atorvastatin simultaneously. Amlodipine improves myocardial ischemia, such as hypertension and stable or variant angina, and reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with coronary artery disease without heart failure, as well as the risks associated with coronary revascularization. Atorvastatin reduces the risk of various cardiovascular diseases and lowers blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia while raising HDL cholesterol levels. It also helps prevent numerous cardiovascular complications, such as reducing risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, post-vascular surgery risks, and heart failure hospitalization. This medication comprehensively manages cardiovascular health issues such as hypertension and dyslipidemia, improving the patient's condition.
Amlodipine: 5 mg should be taken orally once a day, and the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg a day depending on the patient's response. The starting dose is 10 mg once daily, and for patients requiring more significant reductions in LDL cholesterol, it may be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage range is from 10 mg to 80 mg once daily, and it can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals who have experienced an allergic reaction to this medication or similar drugs should not take it. Additionally, it should be avoided in patients with severely impaired liver function or active liver diseases, and those with serum aminotransferase levels persistently more than three times the normal limit. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. Patients with muscular disorders, severe aortic stenosis, patients in shock, those within one month post-myocardial infarction, those with unstable angina, and patients taking specific antiviral medications should also refrain from using this medication. There are also patients who require caution while taking this medication. Patients with severely reduced kidney function, the elderly, alcoholics, or those with a history of liver disease should use this medication with care. In particular, patients at high risk for muscle damage should check creatine kinase (CK) levels, a muscle damage indicator, before administration. Caution is also necessary for patients with acute heart failure, hypertensive crises, and mild to moderate liver dysfunction. This medication is generally well tolerated with few side effects, but infrequently may cause hypotension, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, edema, myalgia, and digestive disturbances. Patients should consult their doctor immediately if any liver dysfunction or muscle-related abnormal symptoms occur. This medication can interact with other drugs; therefore, it is crucial to consult with a doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking specific antibiotics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, certain antiviral agents, and other lipid-lowering agents. Grapefruit juice can also increase the blood concentration of this medication, so excessive consumption should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid taking this medication as its components may be harmful to the fetus or baby. Women planning to become pregnant should employ appropriate contraceptive methods. The safety of this medication in children and the elderly has not been established sufficiently, hence special caution is required. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively, potentially leading to shock, thus immediate medical attention should be sought.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. This helps preserve the efficacy of the medication and ensures safe use.
