Summary

Main use
Reduction of risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
Hyperlipidemia: The recommended initial dose is 10 mg of atorvastatin once daily, but for patients requiring more LDL cholesterol reduction, the starting dose can be 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Dosage range is from 10 mg to 80 mg once daily, and it should be individualized based on treatment goals and patient characteristics; lipid levels should be analyzed within 2-4 weeks after starting or adjusting the dose. The treatment goal is to reduce LDL cholesterol levels; therefore, it is recommended to monitor LDL cholesterol levels during the initiation of treatment and evaluation of treatment response. However, if LDL cholesterol levels cannot be monitored, total cholesterol levels may be used for assessing treatment response.
Child dose
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17): The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dosage should be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more according to treatment goals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, it is effective in lowering the risk of heart-related complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular interventions, and angina. It plays a preventive role against various cardiovascular disease risk factors even in diabetic patients or high-risk adults. It also effectively lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia, thereby improving vascular health. It can be used together with dietary changes in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used to maintain cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of various related diseases.
