Precautions

This medication contains alpha-lipoic acid as the active ingredient and is not safe for use in certain patients. First, patients with allergies to any of the ingredients or excipients in this medication should avoid taking it. Also, the safety and efficacy for children and adolescents have not been sufficiently established, so it is not used in this age group. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may rarely occur, so caution is advised. Skin may also rarely experience allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, or itching. Additionally, this medication can lower blood sugar levels, leading to hypoglycemic symptoms such as dizziness, sweating, headaches, and visual disturbances, so patients needing blood sugar control must exercise caution. Taste disturbances have also been reported occasionally. With long-term use, some patients may experience symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, vomiting, dyspepsia, hives, itching, nausea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Patients should refrain from alcohol consumption while taking this medication. Alcohol can worsen nerve damage and reduce the therapeutic effect of the medication, so especially for patients with diabetic neuropathy, it is advisable to avoid alcohol. Furthermore, this medication may reduce the effectiveness of the specific anticancer drug cisplatin, so caution is needed when taken together. Taking it with preparations containing iron, magnesium, calcium, or milk may impede the absorption of the medication; therefore, if this medication is taken 30 minutes before breakfast, it is advisable to take iron or magnesium preparations at lunch or dinner. When taken with insulin or other diabetes medications that have blood sugar-lowering effects, there is a risk of blood sugar becoming too low, so blood sugar should be monitored frequently, and medication dosage should be adjusted if necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use this medication after consulting with a physician, as its safety has not been fully established. In case of overdose, severe toxicity symptoms may appear, including anxiety, altered consciousness in the early stages, and in severe cases, generalized convulsions, lactic acidosis, hypoglycemia, shock, muscle damage, blood clotting disorders, bone marrow suppression, and multiple organ failure may occur. If an overdose is suspected, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment, including inducing vomiting, gastric lavage, and administration of activated charcoal. This medication should not be stored at temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius and must be kept in a safe place out of the reach of children. Additionally, transferring it to another container may degrade its quality, so it is best to maintain the original packaging.
