This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and stable or variant angina. In summary, this drug is used to treat hypertension and angina while lowering the risks of hospitalization for angina and the risks of coronary procedures.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine, and it can be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it should not be given to patients with allergies to this drug or other similar medications, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in a state of shock. Also, special caution is needed for patients with severe hypotension, patients requiring dialysis, the elderly, and pregnant or potentially pregnant women. Taking this medication can cause side effects such as facial flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various adverse reactions such as hypotension, allergic reactions, skin rashes, hair loss, cough, and liver dysfunction have been reported, so if symptoms are severe or persist, you should consult a doctor. Patients with heart failure or liver dysfunction may require dosage adjustment and monitoring because the action of this drug can last longer. This drug also lowers blood pressure gradually, so it may not be suitable for emergencies. This drug can interact with several other medications, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist. In particular, taking it with grapefruit juice may excessively increase the blood pressure-lowering effect, so it should be avoided. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication unless absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been established, and if nursing, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding. Can be used only in children aged 6 years and older, as safety and efficacy have not been confirmed in children under 6 years old. It is generally safe to administer to the elderly at normal doses, but it is advisable to carefully monitor their condition. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively, and heart rate may increase, potentially leading to shock. In such cases, immediate medical treatment is required, and blood pressure and heart function should be closely monitored, with the potential need for vasoconstrictors or calcium gluconate administration. This medication has not been found to pose risks of carcinogenicity or genotoxicity even with long-term use, and it has been clinically demonstrated to be safe in healthy adults and children.
