Improvement of myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and coronary artery disease (stable and unstable angina), and reduction of the risk of hospitalization due to angina and vascular reconstructive surgery
This drug is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension, stable angina, and unstable angina. Additionally, in patients with coronary artery disease confirmed by recent angiography who do not have heart failure or have a cardiac output of over 40%, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina and the risk of coronary artery reconstructive surgery. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating symptoms and reducing risks associated with heart-related diseases.
This medication should be taken with enough water. Escitalopram should be administered orally once daily at a dose of 2.5 mg, which may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjustments should be made based on age and symptoms.
The effective oral dosage of escitalopram for blood pressure reduction is once daily 1.25 mg-2.5 mg. Doses exceeding 2.5 mg per day in pediatric patients have not been studied.
This drug should not be used in certain patients. Those with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or similar medications should avoid taking it. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not use this medication. Patients in a state of severe shock such as cardiogenic shock, those with severe aortic stenosis, patients with unstable angina, and those who have had a myocardial infarction within one month should also avoid this medication. Patients with severe liver dysfunction or severe hypotension should not use this drug. Furthermore, patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not use this drug due to the lactose it contains. Patients with severe renal dysfunction, those undergoing dialysis, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, patients experiencing hypertensive crisis, and patients with mild to moderate hepatic dysfunction should use this drug with caution. Various side effects may occur when taking this drug. The most common side effects include flushing accompanied by a feeling of warmth, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, nausea, dyspepsia, drowsiness, and others. Rare side effects may include dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, vasculitis, insomnia, skin rash, hepatic dysfunction, etc. If any abnormal symptoms occur, please consult a physician. Abruptly stopping this medication can worsen symptoms, so it should be reduced gradually according to a doctor's instructions, and care should be taken not to stop it arbitrarily. Patients with heart failure or poor liver function should be closely monitored when taking this medication due to the prolonged effects. It is recommended to take this drug with a sufficient amount of water, and care should be taken when driving or operating machinery, as it may lower blood pressure. This drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Special caution is required when taking it with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, or grapefruit juice. It is safest for pregnant or nursing women not to take this drug, and if nursing, breastfeeding should be discontinued. This medication should only be used in children aged 6 and older; safety and efficacy in children under 6 have not been established. Elderly patients may experience prolonged effects of the drug, so it is advisable to start at a lower dose and observe their condition during treatment. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, arrhythmias, and shock may occur; immediate medical attention is needed. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and caution should be taken as quality may be affected if transferred to another container.
