Improvement of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis (gastrointestinal diseases), prevention of Mendelson syndrome
This medication is used to treat ulcers that occur in the stomach and duodenum as well as gastritis. It is also effective in treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It helps prevent Mendelson syndrome by administering the medication before surgery, and also prevents the occurrence of ulcers after surgery. It is used to prevent and treat ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication is utilized for improving various gastrointestinal disorders.
Typically, administer 2 tablets orally twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) For gastric and duodenal ulcers: Take 2 tablets, twice a day, or take 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. Patients with duodenal ulcers may take 4 tablets twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime. The same dosage applies for ulcers due to NSAID use or in combination therapy. For maintenance therapy, use 2 tablets once a day.
This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components. It is also not safe for patients with a history of acute porphyria, impaired kidney function, a history of upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who could become pregnant, premature infants and neonates, and patients on potassium-restricted diets. Patients with liver function problems, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those with a history of kidney dysfunction should use this medication with special caution. When taken with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers should undergo regular monitoring. This medication can mask symptoms of stomach cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who have newly developed dyspeptic symptoms should ensure they do not have a malignant disease before administration. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric or duodenal ulcers should undergo bacterial eradication therapy. Patients in severe intensive care or those with hypophosphatemia, as well as those experiencing swallowing difficulties, require careful attention. Rarely, serious allergic reactions like anaphylaxis shock may occur during the use of this medication, so symptoms should be carefully observed. If hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, urticaria, angioedema, fever, bronchospasm, hypotension, or chest pain occur, the use of this medication should be stopped immediately. Blood-related abnormalities such as granulocytopenia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia may occur rarely, and blood tests should be performed if symptoms like general fatigue, bleeding, or fever develop. Symptoms of liver dysfunction such as temporary elevation of liver enzymes or hepatitis may appear, warranting regular liver function tests and symptom monitoring. Cardiovascular issues, including arrhythmias and vasculitis, have also been reported very rarely. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and the color of stool may change; these do not require separate treatment unless specified. Neurological side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, insomnia, or headaches can occur rarely, so patients should consult medical personnel if they experience abnormal symptoms. Musculoskeletal side effects like myalgia or arthralgia can occur rarely, and in severe cases, rhabdomyolysis may occur, necessitating caution. Dermatological side effects such as rashes and hair loss have been reported rarely, and serious skin reactions may occur. Long-term use should be avoided, and treatment progress should be carefully monitored, with periodic blood tests and checks of liver and kidney function recommended. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or weakened immunity may have an increased risk of pneumonia. Patients should avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery if they experience dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication. Interactions with other drugs may occur, so patients, especially those on anticoagulants or certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants, should consult with medical personnel. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication; safety in pediatric patients has not been established, so administration is not recommended. In cases of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be required, and blood dialysis may be necessary to remove the drug if needed. This medication may reduce gastric acid secretion and promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, so regular examinations including eye checks are necessary during long-term use.
Urticaria, severe swelling (including angioedema and vascular swelling), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, anaphylaxis shock, vasculitis, liver abnormalities (jaundice, hepatitis, etc.), severe neurological symptoms (seizures, consciousness disorders, mental confusion), severe swelling or urination abnormalities (systemic swelling accompanied by elevated blood pressure), agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, aplastic anemia, acquired immune hemolytic anemia, acute interstitial nephritis, heart block, arrhythmia
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
