This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective in relieving symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease, and can be utilized for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease. In patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it is treated in combination with antibiotics. Finally, it is used for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome to help suppress excessive gastric acid secretion. Overall, it is effective for treating various gastrointestinal-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: Administer 10 mg orally once a day. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg can be administered orally once a day. Treat gastric ulcers for up to 8 weeks and duodenal ulcers for 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. If not treated after 8 weeks, 10 mg or 20 mg can be additionally administered twice a day.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to certain components or benzimidazoles, or those with a history of such reactions. Caution is required in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics when co-administering this medication. Particularly, caution should be exercised when used in conjunction with certain heart-related medications, as this may pose cardiac issues. Patients taking atazanavir or rilpivirine should not take this medication together. It is also recommended that pregnant or nursing women avoid using this medication for safety reasons. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly should use this medication cautiously, as well as those with a history of drug hypersensitivity. This medication contains a dye known as Yellow No. 4, so caution should be taken if there is an allergy to this substance. If allergic reactions such as rash, hives, or itching occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately. Regular blood tests are advisable as there may be abnormalities, and if any issues arise, discontinue the medication and receive appropriate measures. Liver function abnormalities or fulminant hepatitis and jaundice may occur, so regular liver function tests should be performed, and discontinue use if any abnormal symptoms are observed. Because it may affect the heart and blood vessels, consult a doctor immediately if cardiovascular symptoms appear. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur, and specialized treatment may be required in severe cases. Symptoms related to the central nervous system, such as headaches, insomnia, dizziness, and anxiety have been reported, so if symptoms persist, consult a medical professional. Respiratory symptoms such as cough and difficulty breathing may occur, and severe lung disease may rarely develop, so caution is necessary. Musculoskeletal issues such as muscle pain and joint pain may occur, and if symptoms are severe, notify a medical professional. Skin-related adverse reactions may occur, such as skin rash, itching, and hair loss; if severe skin reactions occur, discontinue use immediately. Eye issues may arise, so consult a specialist if experiencing vision changes or pain. Urinary problems may also occur, so it is advisable to inform a medical professional if any symptoms arise. This medication may affect the absorption of certain vitamins with long-term use, so periodic check-ups are necessary. Caution is advised as drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. Since there may be interactions with certain drugs, consult with a doctor or pharmacist when taking other medications. This medication should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing and stored out of reach of children. If used long-term, it is necessary to undergo regular check-ups to monitor health status, and consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormal symptoms are observed.

Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory problems with cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes, extreme fatigue, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, vision changes, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output.
