This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia due to hypertension and stable or variant angina. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with coronary heart disease who do not have heart failure or have a cardiac output of over 40%. It is effective in reducing the risks that may occur during coronary artery revascularization. This drug helps improve heart and vascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 2.5 mg of S-Amlodipine orally once daily; the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg per day based on patient response. Adjustments should be made based on age and symptoms.

Child dose

The oral dosage of S-Amlodipine for effective blood pressure reduction is 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg once daily. Doses exceeding 2.5 mg per day in pediatric patients have not been studied.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients who have had an allergy to this drug or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing women, patients in severe shock, patients with severe heart valve problems, patients with unstable angina, patients who have recently had a myocardial infarction, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe hypotension, and patients with genetic conditions like lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Additionally, this drug should be administered cautiously to patients with very poor kidney function, elderly individuals, patients with acute heart failure, hypertensive crisis patients, and patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. The most common side effects include symptoms such as flushing and warmth, fatigue, swelling in the legs or ankles, a sensation of a rapidly beating heart, dizziness, headaches, nausea, and drowsiness. Rarely, symptoms like dry mouth or excessive sweating, hypotension, fainting, muscle pain, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be abruptly stopped as symptoms may worsen; do not cease taking it without medical advice. Patients with heart failure or poor liver function should be particularly cautious while taking this medication, and blood pressure and symptoms must be closely monitored. It is recommended to take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery if symptoms like dizziness or drowsiness occur. Moreover, this medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. In particular, caution should be exercised when taken with grapefruit juice as it can enhance the effect of this drug, and more care is needed when combining it with certain antibiotics or other medications. It is safest not to take this medication if pregnant or nursing; if nursing, discontinuing breastfeeding is recommended. Use in children is recommended only for those aged 6 and older; safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6 years of age.
