This medication is used for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and angina. It helps alleviate myocardial ischemia when the heart does not receive adequate blood supply due to fixed occlusion or vascular spasms in the coronary arteries. Additionally, it has been shown to reduce hospitalization risks and surgical risks associated with vascular procedures in patients with confirmed coronary heart disease who do not have heart failure and have normal cardiac output after recent angiography. This drug is used to protect heart health and improve symptoms of angina.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults are to take 5 mg of amlodipine orally once a day and may increase to a maximum of 10 mg per day depending on the patient's response. Adjustments should be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It can be dangerous for individuals allergic to this drug or similar medications, nursing women, patients with severely impaired liver function, patients with severe aortic stenosis among heart valve diseases, and those in a state of shock. Additionally, caution should be exercised when using this drug in patients with very low blood pressure, patients with very poor kidney function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. While this drug helps to lower blood pressure and assists the heart, side effects such as facial flushing, fatigue, swelling, a feeling of rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea may occasionally occur. Rarely, symptoms such as hypotension, sensory disturbances, erectile dysfunction, dry mouth, liver dysfunction, and skin rashes have been reported. Patients with heart disease or poor liver function should be careful when using this drug. Furthermore, this drug lowers blood pressure gradually, making it unsuitable for emergency situations. This drug can be used alongside other antihypertensives, diuretics, antibiotics, etc., but it is better to avoid taking it with grapefruit juice, as it may enhance the drug's effect. Caution is needed, especially when used with certain antibiotics or medications due to an increased risk of hypotension. It is recommended that pregnant or nursing women do not use this drug, and it should only be considered during pregnancy if no other safe alternatives are available. In cases of overdose, severe side effects such as excessively low blood pressure and rapid heart rate may occur, so immediate medical attention should be sought, and treatment such as gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be required. This drug may be used in children above a certain age, but safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6 years old. Elderly patients can generally use it at normal dosages, and it tends to be well tolerated. Finally, while this drug is unlikely to significantly impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, caution should be taken as dizziness may occur in some individuals.
