Improvement of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms

Adults: Administer Donepezil Hydrochloride 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For 4-6 weeks, administer at a dose of 5 mg, and after assessing clinical response, may increase to 10 mg. When increasing to a 10 mg daily dose, caution should be taken for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Women over 85 years of age who are underweight should not exceed 5 mg per day.
Pediatrics: There is no experience in using this medication in children.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to specific ingredients or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, patients with a genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with heart diseases or heart rhythm problems should use this medication cautiously, as it may cause a slow heart rate or arrhythmia, requiring careful monitoring. Patients with a history of peptic ulcers or those on anti-inflammatory painkillers should use this medication cautiously to prevent gastrointestinal bleeding or worsening of ulcers. Patients with asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be cautious as respiratory symptoms may worsen with this medication. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders like Parkinson's disease should also take caution as there is a risk of symptom worsening. This medication can cause various side effects, including heart problems, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, seizures, movement disorders, difficulty breathing, acute pancreatitis, and renal failure. Side effects may also include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, hallucinations, depression, muscle pain, skin rash, and itching. If any heart-related adverse reactions occur, discontinue use immediately and seek appropriate treatment. This medication is only for Alzheimer-type dementia patients and has not been approved for other types of dementia or memory loss. Treatment should be conducted under the supervision of an experienced physician, and if there is no therapeutic effect, discontinuation should be considered. This medication can slow down heart rate and may induce arrhythmias, so patients with heart disease may require an electrocardiogram. Caution is needed as it may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, especially when initiating therapy or increasing dosage.
