This medication is used for myocardial ischemia such as hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina. It also helps reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina and the risk of coronary artery interventions in patients confirmed with coronary heart disease during recent angiography who have no heart failure and whose cardiac output is over 40%. This medication is effective in managing and treating cardiovascular diseases, improving patients' heart health.
5 mg of amlodipine is administered orally once daily, and the dosage can be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, individuals allergic to this medication or similar drugs, breastfeeding women, those with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and individuals in a state of shock may face risks associated with this medication. Additionally, patients with severe hypotension, those requiring renal dialysis, the elderly, and pregnant or potentially pregnant women should take this medication with caution. It is particularly important for pregnant women to consult with a doctor before making a decision about taking the medication. Side effects may occur, including facial flushing due to vasodilation, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, and others. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function may be more sensitive to the effects and side effects of this medication, and caution is warranted during use. Blood pressure may gradually decrease even after discontinuing the medication, so when taking other blood pressure medications alongside this one, it is necessary to adjust dosage and frequency according to a doctor's instructions. Taking this medication with grapefruit or grapefruit juice may excessively enhance its blood pressure-lowering effects, so it is advisable to avoid their concurrent use. Safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so it is recommended to avoid use unless absolutely necessary, and if breastfeeding, discontinuation of breastfeeding during the medication period is advised.
