Treatment to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improve hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the risk of vascular intervention and angina, and decreases the likelihood of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it is effective in lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is particularly suitable for patients with dyslipidemia or familial hypercholesterolemia that are difficult to control with dietary adjustments. It is also used in managing familial hypercholesterolemia in children and adolescents.
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily. For patients requiring additional LDL-cholesterol reduction, therapy may begin at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage may be administered within a range of 10-80 mg once daily, individualized according to treatment goals and patient response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, a dosage of 10-80 mg once daily is administered.
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-17), the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Dosage adjustments should be made with an interval of at least four weeks.

If symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, fever, etc., occur, it is crucial to notify medical personnel immediately and undergo necessary examinations. This medication can cause liver function abnormalities and, rarely, severe liver damage, so regular liver function tests must be conducted before and during treatment. Adequate contraceptive methods should be used during treatment, and if pregnancy occurs, this medication should be discontinued immediately. This medication contains lactose, so it should not be taken by patients with lactose intolerance. Elderly patients or those with renal impairment are at increased risk for myopathy and rhabdomyolysis, so further precautions are needed during use, and regular monitoring is essential. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment must be administered, and liver function and muscle condition should be examined.
