Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers, alleviation of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and prevention and maintenance therapy for rebleeding of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
This medication is used to treat and prevent the recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis. It is also helpful in treating and preventing recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is effective in treating and preventing gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with upper gastrointestinal symptoms that occur during non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use. It is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and is utilized for the prevention and maintenance therapy of rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers. Overall, it is widely used for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the stomach and esophagus.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - If esophagitis is not treated or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20 mg once daily - Symptoms of GERD without esophagitis.
Adolescents aged 12 years and older - Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for one day for 4 weeks - If esophagitis is not treated or symptoms persist, treat for an additional 4 weeks.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this drug or its components or who have experienced allergic reactions to benzimidazole derivatives in the past should not use it. Additionally, when used in conjunction with amoxicillin or clarithromycin for Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, patients allergic to these antibiotics should not use this medication. It is also safest to avoid this medication in patients receiving certain heart-related medications or antiviral drugs, as well as in lactating women. Various adverse reactions may occur during the use of this medication. Commonly, headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea may occur, while less commonly, abnormalities in blood, liver dysfunction, and severe skin reactions may develop. In particular, long-term use may lead to electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia, so regular blood tests and monitoring of the condition are necessary. This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase bacterial growth in the stomach; thus, if diarrhea persists, consultation with a physician is required. Additionally, long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, so caution is necessary in patients at risk for osteoporosis. During treatment with this medication, there are many potential drug interactions, so patients, especially those taking anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, and antiviral drugs, should consult with their physician or pharmacist. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, so pregnant women should use it cautiously, and those breastfeeding should avoid it. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment will be symptomatic; this medication is not removed by dialysis, requiring caution. Finally, keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container, which is important for both safety and maintenance of the drug's quality.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, mental confusion, pancreatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), muscle weakness, interstitial nephritis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, acute.
Headache, dizziness, paresthesia, drowsiness, taste disturbance, blurred vision, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, dermatitis, itching, rashes, urticaria, alopecia, photosensitivity, erythema multiforme, myalgia, muscle weakness, interstitial nephritis, gynecomastia, asthenia, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain, retrosternal pain.

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect from air or moisture. It is best to keep it at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
