Relief of diabetic polyneuropathy
This medication helps alleviate symptoms caused by diabetic polyneuropathy. It has the effect of improving pain or sensory disturbances due to nerve damage, thereby enhancing the quality of life for patients. It is used to manage nerve complications from diabetes.
Adults: Take 600 mg of thioctic acid once daily with plenty of water, approximately 30 minutes before breakfast.
This medicine contains α-lipoic acid, which may cause allergic reactions in some patients; therefore, patients with hypersensitivity to this ingredient or its excipients should not take this medication. Additionally, there is insufficient clinical experience with this medication in children and adolescents, making it safe to avoid administering it to minors. Rarely, gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur. Allergic symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or itching may also rarely occur, so caution is warranted. This medication may lower blood sugar levels, so symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, sweating, headaches, and vision disturbances may appear; it is essential to consult healthcare personnel immediately if such symptoms occur. Taste disorders have also been reported rarely, so any changes in taste perception during use should be reported. Individuals who frequently consume alcohol are at risk of worsening nerve damage; therefore, patients with diabetic neuropathy should avoid alcohol consumption, even during drug holidays. Since this medication can interact with drugs containing certain metal components or milk and impede absorption in the body, iron or magnesium preparations should be taken at different times than this medication. Furthermore, when taken with insulin or other diabetes medications, the blood sugar-lowering effect may increase, necessitating frequent blood sugar monitoring and dosage adjustments as needed. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication cautiously under the advice of a physician, as its safety has not been fully established. In case of overdose, severe toxic symptoms may occur, and suspected cases should seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. Lastly, this medication should not be stored at temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius and should be kept out of reach of children in a safe place; transferring it to another container from its original packaging should be avoided.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it must be stored in a tightly closed container. Additionally, it is safe to store it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius, avoiding extremes of heat or cold.
