This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent the recurrence of erosive esophagitis. It also helps alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is effective in treating and preventing recurrence of duodenal ulcers or peptic ulcers in conjunction with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, it is used to treat symptoms (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) of upper gastrointestinal tract that may occur with the intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and for the treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers caused by them. It is also appropriate for treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and maintaining therapy to prevent gastric or duodenal ulcer rebleeding. Therefore, this drug is widely used in the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal-associated diseases.
