How to take

Adult dose

For adults aged 18 years and older, there are divided or non-divided dosing methods. [Divided dosing method] The day before the colonoscopy, prepare 1L of solution (500mL * 2 doses) and take it over 1 hour (250mL every 15 minutes), followed by an additional 500mL of water. The next morning, prepare 1L of solution (500mL * 2 doses) and take it over 1 hour, followed by an additional 500mL of water.

Precautions

This drug has rarely been reported to cause generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients with no seizure history. These seizures may be related to electrolyte imbalances in the body, so caution is advised for patients taking medications that increase the risk of electrolyte abnormalities, such as diuretics or ACE inhibitors, and for patients suspected of having hyponatremia. This drug should not be used in patients with bowel obstruction, gastrointestinal obstruction, perforation, toxic colitis, or toxic megacolon, and should be used with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. Additionally, this drug contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which breaks down into phenylalanine, so it should not be administered to patients with phenylketonuria. Do not administer to patients who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients, patients with suspected gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, patients with dehydration or severe heart failure, patients with active cancer, patients with gastric paralysis, patients with bowel obstruction, patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, unresponsive patients, or children under 18 years old. Use this drug with caution in patients with intestinal strictures or severe constipation, elderly patients, frail patients, patients with vomiting reflex disorders or altered consciousness, patients receiving the drug through a nasogastric tube, patients with severe renal impairment, patients with acute severe inflammatory diseases, patients with dysphagia, patients with severe abdominal distension or abdominal pain, and patients with severe ulcerative colitis. This drug may cause adverse reactions such as hunger, electrolyte imbalances, sleep disturbances, dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, abdominal distension, anal discomfort, vomiting, dyspepsia, dysphagia, lethargy, thirst, tremors, malaise, decreased serum bicarbonate, decreased serum calcium, hypercalcemia, decreased or increased serum chloride, increased serum phosphate, liver function abnormalities, runny nose, dermatitis, rash, itching, tremor, and renal impairment. Additionally, allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, dermatitis, edema, and anaphylaxis have been reported. Caution is especially necessary in the elderly, as bleeding or heart-related issues due to gastric mucosal damage may occur. Before administering this drug, check the patient's bowel movement status, and monitor bowel movements during administration. Bowel motility begins approximately within one hour after drug intake, and if abdominal distension or pain is severe, slow down or discontinue administration and seek appropriate medical care. If symptoms of fluid or electrolyte abnormalities appear, check and treat the condition through blood tests. This drug may cause diarrhea, so it is important to maintain adequate hydration before and after ingestion. Additionally, using it in combination with irritant laxatives increases the risk of intestinal mucosal damage, so it is advisable not to use them together. The safety of this drug during pregnancy or lactation has not been established, so it should only be administered when the diagnostic benefits outweigh the risks. It is not administered to children as its safety and efficacy have not been confirmed. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to this drug, so caution is required during administration. In cases of overdose, dehydration, decreased blood volume, or severe electrolyte abnormalities may occur, so patients who have overdosed should be carefully monitored and receive appropriate treatment. This drug should not be mixed with other ingredients or flavorings, and it should be taken immediately after dissolving in water; any unused solution within 24 hours should be discarded. During storage, keep it in a tightly closed container to prevent air or moisture from entering, and it is recommended to store at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way can help maintain the drug’s effectiveness for a longer period.
