(Hypertension, Angina) Reduction of cardiovascular risk and improvement of dyslipidemia
This medication is used when both amlodipine, which improves blood supply to the heart in patients with hypertension and angina, and atorvastatin, which regulates cholesterol levels in the blood and lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases, need to be administered simultaneously. Amlodipine dilates blood vessels to lower blood pressure and reduces the risk of coronary artery cardiovascular diseases, alleviating myocardial ischemia. Atorvastatin decreases bad cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing good cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina. It also helps manage cardiovascular risk in patients with diabetes or hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used to enhance cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of related complications by controlling blood pressure and improving blood lipid levels.
This medication is administered only to adults, and the dosing should be individualized based on the efficacy and tolerance of amlodipine/atorvastatin for each patient. Amlodipine (as esamlodipine) is administered orally once daily at a dose of 5 (2.5) mg, which can be increased to a maximum of 10 (5) mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate according to symptoms. Atorvastatin can be administered at any time of the day, regardless of food intake.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, people allergic to this drug or similar medications, individuals with severe liver dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe muscular disorders, those with severe aortic stenosis, patients in shock, and those within one month after a myocardial infarction may be at risk if they take this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired kidney function or the elderly, alcoholics, and those with a history of liver disease should use this medication carefully, and patients at risk of muscular disorders should undergo blood tests related to muscles before treatment. While this medication is generally safe for most patients, side effects such as blood pressure drop, dizziness, headache, indigestion, muscle pain, and fatigue may occasionally occur. Rarely, abnormalities in liver function, allergic reactions, or cardiac-related abnormal symptoms have also been reported, so any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed during treatment, it should be discontinued immediately. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid this medication. This drug can interact with several other medications, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines. Care should be taken, especially when taken with certain antibiotics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, colesevelam, and some antihypertensives. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, heart rate abnormalities, and pulmonary edema may occur, requiring immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication's safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established in children or the elderly, so special caution is needed in these age groups. Finally, this medication should be stored in a tightly closed container away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it to another container.
