Relief of symptoms of gastric ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection
This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, effective for the relief of symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease, and for long-term maintenance therapy. Additionally, it is used in combination with antibiotics for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection and also helps in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Therefore, it is used for the treatment and symptom relief of various gastrointestinal conditions.
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Administer 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be taken once daily. Administer for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers, and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve, additional 10 mg or 20 mg may be administered orally twice daily for 8 weeks.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to any specific ingredients or to the drug itself. Particular caution is required for those with allergies to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, and hypersensitivity to the antibiotics used in conjunction with this medication for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori should also be taken into account. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly are at increased risk of side effects, and thus the drug should be administered with caution. This medication may cause allergic symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or hives; if such symptoms occur, the patient should stop taking it immediately and consult a physician. Regular blood tests or liver function tests are recommended during treatment, and the medication should be discontinued if any abnormalities are found. Side effects may occur in various areas including the heart, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, skin, and respiratory system, so if symptoms arise, the patient should consult healthcare personnel immediately. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, so bone health tests should be conducted if necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform their healthcare provider about any other medications they are taking. Particularly caution should be exercised when combining it with drugs that affect blood coagulation, antiviral agents, and antibiotics. There may be drowsiness or dizziness when driving or operating dangerous machinery; caution should be practiced in these activities. There is no specific antidote for overdose; treatment should be symptomatic, and the tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers. Long-term use of this medication may cause vitamin B12 absorption disorders; nutritional status should be monitored as needed. If symptoms resembling systemic lupus erythematosus appear on the skin or systemically, stop taking this medication immediately and seek specialist care. Additionally, this medication may slightly increase the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections by suppressing gastric acid secretion, so if diarrhea or infection symptoms persist, the patient should visit a hospital.
