Effect of reducing essential hypertension and cardiovascular disease risk
This medicine is used to effectively lower blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in high-risk diabetes patients aged 55 or older with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack, or evidence of end-organ damage. This medication has a positive effect on lowering the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. It is helpful in improving cardiovascular health when used safely.
For essential hypertension, Telmisartan should be taken orally once a day at a dose of 40 mg with water, and it may be taken regardless of meals. Depending on the patient, 20 mg once a day may also be effective, and if necessary, it can be increased to 80 mg once a day. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect occurs 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment. For decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, 80 mg should be taken orally once a day with water.
