Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
The recommended starting dose for treating hyperlipidemia is 10 mg of atorvastatin taken once daily; however, if more LDL cholesterol reduction is required, it may start at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dose range is 10-80 mg once daily, and should be individualized based on treatment goals and patient response, with lipid levels analyzed and dosage adjusted within 2-4 weeks. In cases of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the administration dose is 10-80 mg once daily, given in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis), or when such therapies are not possible.
Child dose
The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted according to treatment goals with an interval of 4 weeks or more.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It decreases the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgeries, and angina in adults with various risk factors related to coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure hospitalizations, and angina, effectively lowering cholesterol and lipid levels in hyperlipidemia patients while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. It is also safe to use in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia to help decrease cholesterol levels. This medication is useful in improving various risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
