Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or other piroxicam formulations. It should not be administered to patients with a specific type of asthma known as aspirin asthma or those with a history of it, as it may induce severe asthma attacks. Patients who have experienced allergic symptoms such as urticaria, rhinitis, or angioedema from aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use this medication. Its safety has not been established in children under 14 years of age, and thus it is not recommended for them. Patients with bronchial asthma should use it cautiously, as asthma symptoms may be aggravated. This medication contains propylene glycol, and caution is needed if there is an allergy or hypersensitivity to this component. As this is a topical medication, symptoms such as itching, redness, rash, scaly keratosis, eczema, contact dermatitis, and red spots may occur, and usage should be discontinued if symptoms are severe. Long-term or excessive use may lead to nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, respiratory distress, and kidney problems, so caution is warranted. This medication is a symptomatic treatment and is not intended to address the underlying cause. When using on an area with a skin infection, it should be used in conjunction with antibacterial or antifungal agents to avoid worsening the infection, and the condition should be monitored closely. When used for a prolonged period, such as in chronic arthritis, other treatment methods should also be considered, and potential side effects should be monitored closely. Use is contraindicated in the last three months of pregnancy due to risks of delayed labor, bleeding, fetal cardiopulmonary toxicity, and impaired kidney function. Although animal studies did not show fetal toxicity during early and mid-pregnancy, safety in humans is not definitively established, and caution should be exercised. Since some of the components of this medication are secreted in breast milk, it is best not to use it while breastfeeding. Safety has not been established for premature infants, newborns, infants, and young children, and therefore it should not be used in these populations. Elderly patients are at higher risk of side effects and should use the minimum effective dose cautiously. It should not be applied to areas with skin wounds, infections, or burns, nor should it be used with occlusive bandages. Caution is needed as temporary irritation may occur if applied to damaged skin areas.
