Treatment of ocular infections such as blepharitis and conjunctivitis
This medication is effective against various bacteria. It addresses Staphylococcus species including Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci, and penicillin-resistant strains, as well as several types of streptococci and pneumococci. It can also treat common bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, in addition to unique bacteria. This drug is particularly effective for infections around the eyes, including blepharitis, dacryocystitis, and styes, as well as conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. It is broadly applicable for the treatment of various ophthalmic infections, assisting patients in achieving rapid recovery. Therefore, this medication is used for treating bacterial infections around the eye.
For mild to moderate infections, instill 1 to 2 drops at the infection site every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce dosing. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used by individuals who have had allergic reactions to aminoglycoside antibiotics or bacitracin. Symptoms such as itching or swelling around the eyes, redness, hyperemic conjunctivitis, and temporary burning sensation may occur. If such symptoms develop, use should be immediately discontinued. Caution is advised as irritation or pain in the eye may occasionally be felt. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is recommended to confirm susceptibility to the bacteria before using this medication and to use it for the minimum effective duration. Prior to use, thorough medical history taking and skin response tests are advisable to prevent allergic reactions or shock. Prolonged or repeated use may lead to resistance, so if symptoms worsen, the medication should be discontinued and appropriate treatment sought. This medication's components should not be used in conjunction with tetracycline antibiotics. If aminoglycoside antibiotics are administered systemically, monitoring of blood concentration is important. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. Vision may temporarily become hazy after instillation; therefore, driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. When used in conjunction with anticoagulants, blood coagulation status should be monitored frequently, and anticoagulant dosage adjusted as necessary. During pregnancy, although teratogenicity has not been reported in animal studies, it should only be used when necessary. For nursing mothers, use should be evaluated as it may be harmful to the baby, potentially necessitating the cessation of breastfeeding or use under a physician's guidance. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as corneal inflammation, redness of the eyes, increased tearing, swelling, and itching may occur, necessitating monitoring of blood concentrations and potentially requiring dialysis. This medication must not be injected directly into the eye and should only be used as an eye drop solution. Additionally, resistance to this medication has been reported in some bacteria, so appropriate testing is necessary to ensure treatment efficacy.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it must be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it is safest to store the medication at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Doing so will help maintain the medication’s effectiveness for a longer period.
