Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used to treat high blood pressure. In particular, it helps slow the progression of kidney disease associated with hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is effective in managing kidney complications caused by hypertension and diabetes. This drug contributes to reducing cardiovascular risks and protecting kidney function by stabilizing blood pressure. Overall, it is used to improve hypertension and related kidney diseases.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For adults with hypertension, the recommended dose is 50 mg of Losartan Potassium taken orally once daily. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dosage can be divided into two doses taken orally each day or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. In adults with hypertension and concomitant kidney disease due to type 2 diabetes, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily based on blood pressure.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older with a weight of 20 kg or more but less than 50 kg, the recommended dosage is 25 mg once daily, which can be increased to a maximum of 50 mg once daily based on blood pressure response. For children weighing 5
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be used by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. Patients with allergic reactions to this medication, severe liver diseases, or certain genetic lactose intolerances should avoid taking it. Patients with moderate to severe diabetes or impaired kidney function should avoid the use of this medication with certain other drugs, and older adults or those at risk for hyperkalemia should use it with caution. During the intake of this medication, symptoms such as dizziness or low blood pressure may occur; especially during initial use, blood pressure should be monitored frequently, and if symptoms occur, medical advice should be sought immediately. Side effects such as muscle pain, weakness, liver function abnormalities, and blood disorders may rarely occur, so any unusual symptoms should be promptly reported to healthcare personnel. This medication can increase serum potassium levels, so it should not be taken with potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, and potassium levels should be regularly monitored through blood tests. Severe hepatitis or renal failure symptoms may occur, so patients with liver or kidney function issues need dosage adjustments and regular check-ups. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and it is advisable to stop breastfeeding while taking it. Overdosage may lead to low blood pressure and cardiac arrhythmias; therefore, the prescribed dosage should be strictly adhered to, and emergency treatment should be sought if overdose is suspected. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of accidents from dizziness. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive medications or specific drugs, so if there are other medications being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, angioedema (which can cause obstruction of the airways due to swelling of the larynx/glottis, or swelling of the face/lips/pharynx/tongue), severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough + fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), and profound lethargy.

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air or moisture. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius to preserve the effectiveness of the drug.
